Observing the Sky: At last, a clear and calm morning to use the Quantum-4 telescope on what ever I wanted. While the Moon was some 7 degrees northeast of Nunki at 5:30am, Jupiter rose nearly hours earlier to become well-placed in the southeast for observation by 5:20am. Clearly, there is something unusual going on up there, as one of its lage dark belts has disappeared! I couldn’t tell where the Greay “Red” Spot was either. The last time this giant planet lost a belt was in the late 1980’s. Truly, Jupiter is a very dynamic planet, considering this belt girdled the planet and was close to 10,000 mies wide. Keep watching this, as like a blind date, you really never know what will become of this feature.
